Whenever you hear people say things like "this is not how a bear market ends" or "this is a textbook bottom being formed," I want you to remember the lesson contained in this video. As Michael Batnick demonstrates with an examination of the various ways in which historical bear markets have bottomed, there is no textbook example of what it should look like.
Sometimes it's a V-shaped bottom, sometimes, it's a double or even a triple bounce from the lows, sometimes it takes forever for a market to turn and sometimes it takes just a moment.
As always, being armed with this information will help you avoid the trap of listening to rules of thumb, inapplicable aphorisms and the heavily skewed commentary of people with an agenda.
